A special tribunal of Bangladesh sentenced two people to death on Monday, including a former leader of the ruling Awami League, for helping to commit crimes against humanity, war crimes and Pakistani soldiers during the liberation war of 1971. Mohammed Shahinur Islam, head of the three judges bench of Bangladesh's International Criminal Court, sentenced him to death after being convicted. The age of both the culprits is around 60 years. They are absconding. The attorneys of the prosecution had accused both of them that they supported the Pakistani army and killed around 100 people in their areas, mostly Hindu minorities. The lawsuit runs in their non-existence. Among the culprits, one was the head of Lakhai sub-district in the North-East Kishorganj of Ali Awami League. It is worth noting that 53 people have been sentenced to death for crimes during the liberation war, most of them are the leaders of the fundamentalist Jamaat-e-Islami who opposed Bangladesh's independence. Some people in are also members of main opposition party BNP.
