The Chinese Embassy here asked Canada to release Huawei's Chief Financial Officer Meng Wanzhou, who was arrested in Vancouver on request of US officials. According to the news agency Xinhua, on Thursday, Huawei has denied any wrongdoing by his official. According to a statement, Canadian authorities temporarily arrested Meng on behalf of the US. The Chinese Embassy said in the statement that the Chinese side strongly opposes this kind of work which seriously damages the human rights of the victims. The statement said that the Chinese side had strongly protested against the US and Canadian side and urged them to immediately correct the wrongdoing and restore Meng Wanzhou's personal independence.
It was further stated in the statement that we will keep track of the progress of this matter and take all measures to protect the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese citizens. Huawei said that the company has provided very little information about the allegations and is not aware of any wrongdoings made by Meng.
